Hi Nainesh, let me check that your payment has gone through at our end. From what you’re telling me, it sounds like it’s been declined (hence why it displays the price instead of Install). Btw, I’ve replied to your email too.

As i have seen, it showed price of application instead of install. I tried third time .

Hi Chris, I’ve been thinking about this recently actually. Been editing a lot of voice clips for an experiment I’m about to run and I’ve noticed a way I could count syllables from the waveforms. I think it would be handy too, since having a slow or monotonous rate of speech seems to be quite a bad feature. You might have seen too, you can make someone sound drunk or senile just by slowing down a clip of their normal speech and keeping the pitch the same. So yeah, I’ll work on this. I’ve got some other features we want to add first though.

Hi I wanted to know if you were working on a pacing feature?

Basically how many words someone speaks per minute etc…

That would deliver greater value, as well as make the results more consistent and reliable.

Would be insanely amazing if your app you could set up a calibration feature so it could differentiate between voices. That’s within a shared conversation.

Thanks man looking forward to more updates?

Is there an app available for macOS now?
Thank you!

I am curious – why does it not work if I put the phone in front of the tv or computer and try to get audio off of that?

Hi David, it doesn’t exactly have problems measuring frequencies that low but we stop it from reporting them since they seemed to mess with the analysis. Maybe I should take another look at that, but at that depth it seemed to pick up sounds from studio equipment which meant that an actor with a fairly high voice and very little vocal fry would end up with a mode way down at 40Hz. It sounds like with your voice, we are cutting it off a little too early though.

Thanks! Yes, I’ve pretty much just started the PhD actually. My current project is building an algorithm which predicts whether a voice sounds male or female, which is a lot harder than you’d expect once you go looking for women who’ve been smoking for decades and men who have naturally very high voices. Once Covid eases up, I’ll be looking to get experimental data so I can build a model of vocal attractiveness. I’m also running a study soon looking at how the voice changes with a viral infection in case you know anyone with a cold? I can’t say much about it yet, but it’s a really cool study.

I have distributions that end around 57-59 hz. I notice that when I think I’m below that frequency, Vocular will pulsate but not give a frequency reading. I’ll have a broad band around low 60 hz and high 50 hz; not the typical taper you see at the end of people’s frequency distribution. These two things make me think my lower frequencies aren’t being counted. It’s not like I’m whispering either, I’m speaking very clearly into the device.

Love the app btw. You’re completing a PhD, right? That’s gotta keep you busy. Is there a roadmap for future development on this app?

Hi James, thanks for bringing this to my attention. Could you let me know your device and the OS version you’re running? If you email me (james@vocularapp.com) we could get you added as a tester if that’s alright with you?
